The CESBA Association represents the formal organization of CESBA. It was established in April 2015 during the 3rd CESBA Day in Salzburg, Austria. The supra-confessional, supra-political and supra-national association aims at promoting the development of a sustainable built environment in Europe.

Origins

Although CESBA is a young movement, it has an eventful history. When the CESBA movement started in 2011, it first was a loose transnational cooperation network of people and organizations from different European regions that wanted to promote a harmonzation of sustainable built environment assessment in order to stop the existing mismatch and proliferation of sustainable building and neighbourhood assessment systems. Those people and organizations used to work in EU-funded project and strived to establish a sustainable European platform for sustainable built environment assessment. During this time, the NENA-network served as the secretary for CESBA. In the following years, with several CESBA Sprint Workshops and transnational conferences such as in Brussels or Barcelona, CESBA was developed further and it was clear that it needed a formal structure. Therefore, in November 2014 it was decided to rename the existing NENA-network into CESBA Association. The association was founded during the 3rd CESBA Day in Salzburg.

Main goals

CESBA’s activity is charitable and not for profit, the association aims to:

  1. exchange of knowledge and experiences between public institutions, companies, business networks, individuals and experts in the field of sustainable development in Europe and, if necessary, all over the world.
  2. promotion of the innovation potential and competitiveness of the members.
  3. initiation and support of joint projects.
  4. participation in networks and companies, which serve the purpose of the association.

The aim of CESBA is to promote the development of a sustainable built environment in Europe. CESBA follows the guidelines on sustainable growth as proposed by the UN-Conference of 1992 on Environment and Development. Therefore CESBA wants to be Europe’s leading organization. The strategies and instruments to achieve the objectives are written down in the CESBA Guide. The CESBA Guide will be revised at least every 5 years.
