CEPHEUS stands for Cost Efficient Passive Houses as EUropean Standards.

CEPHEUS was an EU project within the THERMIE program of the European Commission. The project wasrunning from 1998 to 2001.

Within the CEPHEUS project, 250 housing units to Passive House standards were constructedin five European countries. This process was accompanied by a scientific back-upand by an evaluation of the building operation.

Among others,aims of the project were:

  • To provethat it is technologically possible to implement Passive Houses with low extracosts;
  • To circularize the Passive House standard within these countries (among amateursand professionals)
  • Creationof the conditions for a market introduction of passive houses
  • etc.

The conceptof sustainable and climate neutral energy supply in modern settlements waspresented at the world exhibition EXPO 2000 in Hannover. [1]
