This article deals with an output of the SuPerBuildings project.

Within the project SuPerBuildings, performance levels for a range of sustainability indicators in different countries were collected. This report defines fundamental issues for benchmarking that are relevant for all the indicators. In its first part, the report presents an introduction of the concept of benchmarking. In the second part, basic assumptions and details that need to be considered and defined for the development of benchmarks (e.g. definition of functional equivalent) are presented. The last part presents a more detailed analysis for energy, water and thermal comfort indicators. Annexes included provide additional information.
